About the journal

Where intelligent methods meet working systems

The journal publishes original research and review articles on intelligent computing and on the design, integration and evaluation of computing systems, with a particular interest in work that connects methods with the hardware, software and networks that run them.

Many advances in artificial intelligence are reported in isolation from the hardware, software, networks and organisations they depend on. The journal welcomes papers that close that gap: methods evaluated in realistic systems, systems built around learning components, and studies that measure accuracy together with cost, energy, latency, robustness and trust. Core computer science and systems papers with no AI component are equally welcome.

Every article is free to read on publication, receives a DOI, and shows its received, revised, accepted and published dates. Editorial decisions rest with the editors alone and follow the policies of Crestfield Academic Press, which are based on COPE guidance.

Aims and scope

Topics the journal covers

Submissions should make a clear contribution to computing, with or without an AI component. Papers that combine two or more of these areas, or that report evidence from deployed systems, are especially welcome.

  1. Machine learning and deep learningNew models, training methods, theory, and rigorous empirical evaluation.
  2. Intelligent and autonomous systemsAgents, planning, decision support, robotics and human–AI collaboration.
  3. Integrated and embedded systemsEmbedded, real-time and cyber-physical systems, IoT platforms, hardware–software co-design and accelerators.
  4. Software engineering and systems integrationSoftware architecture, interoperability, middleware, verification, DevOps and large-scale system integration.
  5. Computer networks and communicationsNetwork architectures and protocols, software-defined and programmable networks, wireless, mobile and 5G/6G networks, IoT networking, measurement and performance.
  6. Distributed, edge and cloud computingCloud-native and serverless systems, edge and fog computing, parallel and high-performance computing, federated computing.
  7. Data science and knowledge systemsData engineering, databases, knowledge graphs, reasoning and information retrieval.
  8. AI systems engineeringEfficient and hardware-aware AI, MLOps, benchmarking and reproducibility.
  9. Language, vision and multimodal computingNatural language processing, computer vision, speech and multimodal models.
  10. Trustworthy and secure computingSecurity, privacy, dependability, robustness, fairness and explainability, including network and cloud security.
  11. Computational intelligence and applicationsFuzzy, evolutionary and hybrid methods; applications in health, industry, cities and finance.

For authors

Publishing with the journal

Article types

Research articles report original work with full methods and evidence. Review articles give a critical, structured survey of a field.

Preparing a manuscript

Any clear PDF is accepted for first submission; the Word or LaTeX template is required for the final version. Citations are numbered in square brackets, and every reference should include its DOI where one exists.

Open access and fees

Articles are published under CC BY 4.0 and authors keep their copyright. There are no submission or publication fees during the launch period.

Peer review

Double-blind review by at least two independent external reviewers. The editor decides on the basis of their reports.

Ethics and integrity

Submissions are screened for text similarity. Authors declare funding, conflicts of interest and any use of generative AI tools.

Policies

Authorship, corrections, retractions, appeals and data sharing follow the publisher's editorial policies.

Author templates
